The mission of the Court is to enhance the quality of life for the
citizens in the Parma Municipal Court jurisdiction by promoting public safety,
traffic safety and respect for the administration of justice through the
application of sanctions for violations of City Charter and municipal
ordinances.
This Municipal Court has jurisdiction over violations of city
charter provisions and city ordinances. Some violations require an appearance
in court, while others may be resolved by simply paying a fine instead of
appearing. Court proceedings are governed by city ordinances, court rules and
state statutes. Court employees are not allowed to give legal advice, but will
be happy to answer procedural questions.
Municipal Court handles all types of traffic and criminal
violations as well as civil complaints. Many of the traffic violations are
payable prior to court, but most criminal violations require an appearance in
court before a judge.
The Parma Municipal Court was established by
legislature in 1952 under chapter 1901.01 of the Ohio Revised Code. The court district boundaries cover an area of
71.9 square miles. The Court serves
approximately 177,964 citizens, and handles nearly 30,000 filings annually of
Traffic, Criminal, Parking and Civil matters.The Parma
Municipal Court is a court of record.
The Parma Municipal Court has jurisdiction over the communities of Broadview Heights, Brooklyn, Brooklyn Heights, Linndale,
North Royalton, Parma, Parma Heights, Seven Hills, as well as the Metroparks and Ohio Turnpike located in its boundaries,
and approximately 10 other State and County Agencies.
The goal of the Parma Municipal Court is to
maintain a fair, impartial and speedy resolution of the matters brought before
it without unnecessary delays, and to safeguard the rights of the litigants in
civil or criminal actions.
